ABOUT THE

founders

Mickey and Jo Curbishley are the founders of Music Matters, an organization born from their deep passion for music and the environment. They recognize the power of music to drive social evolution, inspiring collective action and cultural change.

With lifelong careers in the music industry, both have played their roles in shaping its landscape. Mickey began his journey at just 16, touring with AC/DC, and went on to provide production support for legendary artists such as U2, The Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, Prince, and Lady Gaga. Today, he continues to lead a successful global production company based in Hollywood. Jo, an event producer, was instrumental in the rise of the UK’s electronic music movement and played a key role in producing Live Earth, the groundbreaking global climate concert spearheaded by Al Gore.

Founded in 2019, Music Matters was catalyzed by a landback project in the Amazon.

When visiting the land they helped secure, they brought guitars to the local community—an act that sparked deeper collaboration. This led them to work with multiple Indigenous communities, providing instruments, sound, and lighting equipment while supporting land and food sovereignty initiatives to strengthen frontline communities. Music Matters supports Indigenous cultural schools, ensuring the continued transfer of ancestral knowledge, traditions, and wisdom to future generations.

In LA

Music Matters raises the voices of Indigenous leaders by organizing events at their studio space, The Nest in Hollywood, that bring together Native and Western artists, amplifying their messages through music.

They also educate and support musicians and the broader industry, fostering a deeper connection between music and the environmental movement.
